Bought these shoes for a kayak trip near lake Superior. Also used them for hiking up a few rocky streams. You might get some chafing or blisters if you don't wear these shoes with some sort of sock. I just used some regular cotton socks and neither was an issue at all. They will also collect a little sand, but that's inevitable since they breathe so well.Minor gripes aside, these shoes were awesome for the price (US[$]). They took repeated beatings without any damage, and they are comfortable enough to wear all day (even on dry land).Obviously, they are best used while in the water. But they are also great for hot days in general, since you can literally feel the breeze on your toes (while the shoe is on). So I'd say these are great shoes for hiking in general. There might be better water shoes out there, but they don't cost less than $100. Give these a try first.
Teva should sell a spray to take care of the odor, wearing shoes everyday without socks thats going to happen but would be nice if there was something Teva could suggest to hekp minimize the only downfall of these style shoes.
