This is a great shoe for kayaking because it fits well and drains quickly. The slider lock on the laces does not stay tight, which does not add confidence that the shoe would stay one during a bad swim. But I just tie a slip knot with the excess laces and that solves the problem. The Spider rubber is not quite as sticky as 5.10s Stealth, but it still has good traction and has more grip than any other kayaking shoe besides 5.10. However, Teva has a lot more styles to choose from and a lot more reasonable prices than 5.10. Also, Teva shoes last. Every pair of 5.10s I have ever owned has completely disintegrated within within one year. The other great thing about this shoe is how fast it dries, half a day in the sun is all it takes. My 5.10s would still be wet and heavy after several days. All the mesh on the Churn is great for wading through the water because it allows the water to flow through the shoe instead of filling it up and making the shoe feel heavy. Bottom line: If you want the best possible traction and don't care how long your shoe lasts and price is not an issue, get a pair of 5.10s. If you want a really good shoe with really good traction that will last a long time, get a pair of Tevas. Either way, stay as far away from Keen as you can, they have by far the worst traction of any kayaking shoe I have ever worn.
Great water shoe, used it for kayaking the Southern Gulf Islands off of Vancouver Island. Took another pair off shoes but never took these off. Used them in and out of the water only shoe I needed. They did everything well, good protection, climbed rock, dried quickly. Great shoe for the right reasons.
