These shoes really hurt the soles of my feet. I stopped wearing them after a few days but the damage was done, and I can hardly hobble around. I don't understand why they caused me so much pain, but no shoes should do this kind of damage. Has this happened to other people?

I'm a teacher and on my feet all day every day. I have owned and worn these shoes for 10-15 years straight with no complaints whatsoever. I'm hard on my shoes; I wear one pair for nearly everything until they fall apart. That includes the classroom, chemistry lab, hiking, and general daily use. Even with continual (ab)use, I go through a pair about once a year, on average. Back in the heady days of my youth, when I will reluctantly admit that I experimented with alternative shoes, no others ever lasted that long, regardless of manufacturer or price. The only downside is that dogs apparently like the taste of them, or perhaps of my feet...
